Join our field survey team supporting large-scale infrastructure projects nationwide! We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Survey Instrument Technician for a 100% travel-based role. Patriot Surveying & Infrastructure currently operates in 33 states, covering the entire East Coast and extending westward to Texas. This position is essential for collecting field data used in the preparation of project plans and reports across our expansive service area.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

- Operate and maintain conventional surveying equipment, including Total Stations, Levels, and Data Collectors.

- Apply standard surveying practices, accurately collect field data, and maintain detailed, proper field notes.
- Assist the Crew Chief in recognizing and resolving discrepancies in results.

ABOUT THE ROLE & cOMPANY

We are seeking an experienced, dedicated Survey Crew Chief to lead field operations for major infrastructure projects across the U.S. This critical role involves directing all field measurements, ensuring technical accuracy, and supervising a field crew (typically including an Instrument Technician). 

The Crew Chief exercises independent technical judgment, solves field challenges, and ensures all surveying tasks are executed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with project specifications and schedules.

Office location does not necessarily determine primary work location, and travel will be required based on project needs. When travel is required, per diem compensation will be provided as a reimbursement.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES (Leadership & execution)

- Lead, train, and supervise the Survey Instrument Technician and other crew members, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and quality standards.
- Manage daily project execution and planning, determining the most efficient sequence of field tasks.
- Perform complex setups and accurate operations using conventional and GPS surveying equipment (Total Stations, Levels, Data Collectors, etc.).
- Responsible for final Quality Control (QC) and validation of all collected field data, ensuring     compliance with project needs and legal requirements.
- Maintain clear and effective communication regarding project status, data collection progress, and any field issues with Project Managers and Project Surveyors.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of all survey equipment and company vehicles.    
- Follow all company QA/QC procedures and safety standards.

ABOUT THE ROLE & cOMPANY

We are currently seeking a Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE Level B) Technician to support large-scale infrastructure projects throughout the United States. As our SUE Technician, you will perform subsurface utility location and should be able to effectively operate Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) systems and radio-frequency electromagnetic pipe and cable locators. 

The candidate should also be willing to take on additional responsibilities and support a variety of projects in various capacities. This position requires close coordination with Survey Field Crews.

Office location does not necessarily determine primary work location, and travel will be required based on project needs. When travel is required, per diem compensation will be provided as a reimbursement.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

- Perform non-destructive utility location (Level B) using various geophysical equipment, including GPR systems and electromagnetic (EM) pipe and cable locators.
- Accurately mark, document, and sketch the horizontal position and depth of underground utilities (water, gas, electric, communication lines, etc.) onto project plans or sketches.
- Coordinate work efforts closely with Survey Field Crews to ensure the accurate mapping of located utilities.
- Maintain, calibrate, and properly care for all geophysical locating equipment and company vehicles.
- Conduct necessary site reconnaissance, traffic control setup, and safety briefings prior to     commencing field work.
- Perform basic administrative tasks related to project documentation and daily reporting.
- Follow all company QA/QC procedures and safety standards on site.

- Licensure: Current, active licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in the state of operation is required. Multi-state licensure is strongly preferred.
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or at least five (5) years of equivalent experience as a licensed PLS and Project Manager. A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in land surveying/geomatics is required.
- Technical Expertise: Proven experience with ALTA surveys, construction staking, and data processing workflows. Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles related to land development is essential.
- Software Proficiency: High level of proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is required. Experience with MicroStation, Revit, or GIS platforms (ArcGIS) for spatial analysis is a plus.
- Equipment Knowledge: Proficiency with modern survey equipment, including Trimble systems and 3D scanners for precise measurements.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret technical schematics and construction plans accurately while applying advanced math concepts such as trigonometry and algebra.
- Compliance: Valid driver’s license with an acceptable MVR. Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and a comprehensive 7-year criminal background check.
